Maritimo: Precision Mould-Making for Luxury Motor Yachts

Maritimo is a well renowned global brand in the luxury motor yacht industry. Founded by Bill Barry-Cotter over 22 years ago, the company exports to the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, Europe, and North and South America.
With manufacturing headquarters based on Queensland’s Gold Coast, Maritimo has the perfect location to produce and test their craft. Currently they have twelve separate models in production, all proudly designed, developed and manufactured in-house.
Darren Cadman is one of the key players in the development team responsible for bringing these stunning creations to life. One of Australia’s rare shipwrights, Darren honed his craft over decades of timber, fibreglass, and CNC design work. Then new materials entered the industry. Now, he’s a key coordinator for a large part of the production process.
The CMS Athena in Maritimo’s R&D department
“We’re using the Athena for our R&D department, producing plugs and moulds for new designs, new functionality and new styling. The machine is quickly becoming essential to making our models on time, as well as redefining some of Maritimo’s own designers and their design flair. I would say it added another string to the bow for achieving high-quality modelling,” says Darren.

More models in a calendar year
As the Timber and CNC Manager, Darren has a big-picture view of the overall production process. Coordinating between the Timber shop, R&D department and external vendors, his keen mind quickly picks up on changes, especially when they benefit the company.
“We’re able to get a higher level of component in design, a higher level of accuracy of parts fitting to each other and a better efficiency of mould-making, meaning that we can produce more models in a calendar year vs traditional ways,” he notes.

The increase in production potential is a game-changer for Maritimo. While designs vary, Maritimo’s vessels range from 27 to 75ft. With exquisite attention to detail, Maritimo crafts around 30-40 vessels each year while also heavily investing in R&D.

Finding the right machine and the right partner
In order to achieve results that meet their high standards, Maritimo needed the right machine, teamed with superior service. The vetting process was rigorous, and aided by another superyacht star that you may already be familiar with.
“I did a lot of research. I reached out to a few different industries to see what they were using and in what way they were using it. We contacted a well known Western Australian boat building company and from there we were introduced to Pierre at Innovync. We were then able to get all the information and the correct machine tailored to what we needed,” Darren reflected.
With a long-established reputation for manufacturing high-performance luxury motor yachts to uphold, Darren and his highly skilled team knew they needed to lean on a knowledgeable, dedicated distributor. It didn’t take them long to confirm that we were the right fit.
“Pierre in particular is just a wealth of knowledge and experience. He’ll answer every single call, he’s just always available for you from the start.”

A picture-perfect startup
The installation process cemented the relationship. Our team sent over detailed instructions ahead of time, giving Maritimo’s staff an idea of what to expect. Darren and his team followed them to a T, and the Athena was anchored into place. We couldn’t have asked for a smoother process.
Darren said “Prior to the machine arriving, we followed instructions to the letter. It did feel like a lot of work at the time, and it was listed step-by-step to get the floor space ready, the slab in preparation, the power in the right positions, the right amount of power, to have the software technician on-site when it arrived, and in the end, we had a picture-perfect startup.”
From that moment on, Maritimo’s Athena hasn’t stopped working. We can’t wait to see what new innovations will emerge from it!
